  • 700MW! Chint New Energy signs strategic cooperation agreement

    On June 13, Chint New Energy and Atlas Renewable Energy, a world-renowned renewable energy investment company, officially signed a 700MW strategic cooperation agreement. The signing ceremony was held at the Chint New Energy booth at the SNEC exhibition.     The two parties reached a high degree of consensus on in-depth cooperation in the Brazilian market and will work together in trade cooperation such as photovoltaic projects, modules, and cells to accelerate the development of Brazilian photovoltaics and jointly build a clean energy market.    Atlas Renewable Energy Strategic Procurement Director Iris Wu, Quality Management Director Yanyee, Strategic Procurement Director Patrick, Procurement Manager Angel Yoldi, Chint New Energy Chairman and President Dr. Lu Chuan, Chief Marketing Officer Zhang Wei, and International Sales General Manager He Lin participated in the signing ceremony.    Founded in 2017, Atlas Renewable Energy was once the largest private independent power producer (IPP) in Latin America. Today, as a world-renowned renewable energy investment company, Atlas has developed, built and operated more than 19GW of renewable energy power worldwide.   Atlas has long been an important business partner of Chint New Energy in Brazil, and the cooperation between the two parties covers Brazil. After the signing of this agreement, Chint New Energy will leverage its advantages in high-efficiency photovoltaic module products to supply 700MW of photovoltaic modules to Atlas Renewable Energy for clean energy development, construction and operation in the Brazilian market. The two parties will join forces and empower each other to promote resource interconnection, actively explore more cooperation opportunities, and jointly create green economic value.   Over the past decade, Brazil's solar power generation has shown an astonishing growth momentum. From an installed capacity of only 8MW in 2013, it has reached 34.9GW by the end of 2023, and exceeded 40GW at the end of March this year. Brazil's photovoltaic power generation has achieved more than 4,300 times growth in the past decade, making it the country with the largest installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in Latin America.   Iris Wu said that as the first echelon of global photovoltaic components, Chint New Energy has always driven industrial development with technological innovation. It has also cooperated with Atlas dozens of times and achieved good results. It is believed that through this cooperation, the two parties will better integrate their own advantages and jointly develop the Brazilian market.   Previously, Chint New Energy won the bid for Atlas Renewable Energy's 902MW Vista Alegre photovoltaic power station project in Brazil, supplying it with 454MW ASTRO N5 components. This project is also the largest TOPCon project landed by Chint New Energy in Brazil.   In April this year, Chint New Energy signed a contract with Atlas Renewable Energy again to supply 316MW ASTRO N7 series components for the Luiz Carlos project, which will be shipped in July.   Lu Chuan said that Brazil is an important strategic market for Chint New Energy. As a leading enterprise that has been deeply involved in the Latin American market, especially the Brazilian market, Atlas has obvious strength. The cooperation with Atlas has undoubtedly injected more powerful impetus into the development of Chint New Energy.   • 3.5 billion! 10GW heterojunction solar cell project settled in Leshan

      Recently, Sichuan Shuoyang Heterojunction New Energy Co., Ltd. published the draft environmental impact report for the 10GW high-efficiency heterojunction cell project (Phase I) in Leshan High-tech Zone. It is reported that the project plans to invest a total of 3.5 billion yuan and will be built in two phases, 5GW each, using the company's independently developed second-generation heterojunction HBC technology to produce heterojunction cells.     According to the data, Sichuan Shuoyang Heterojunction New Energy Co., Ltd. was established on August 25, 2023. Aiqicha's equity penetration shows that the company's major shareholder is Fujian Juneng Power, which is a holding subsidiary of GS-Solar Energy. GS-Solar Energy is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research and development of a new generation of high-efficiency heterojunction photovoltaic cell technology and providing heterojunction complete line equipment and services. The company is headquartered in Quanzhou, Fujian Province.

  • The two Asian countries unveil plans for large-scale PV projects

    Uzbekistan   Sunview Group Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary, Fabulous Sunview Sdn Bhd has inked a development and cooperation agreement with Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy to develop two large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Uzbekistan.   In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Sunview said its unit is responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, and construction of a 400 megawatt of alternating current (MWac) solar PV plant with a 100 megawatt (MW)/200 megawatt hour (MWh) BESS in the Andijan district.   It also will develop a 200 MWac solar PV plant with a 50мW/100MWh BESS in the Fergana district. Pakistan   The Sindh Transmission & Dispatch Company (STDC) and GO Energy Private Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding for the transmission of a 500-megawatt floating solar project at Keenjhar Lake, Sindh.   Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister for Energy, Government of Sindh, was the chief guest at the signing ceremony held in Karachi. Other dignitaries present at the occasion included Musaddiq Ali Khan, Secretary Energy, Government of Sindh, M.   • Photovoltaic giant's US factory officially opened

      According to foreign media reports, recently, Canadian Solar officially opened its 5GW factory in Texas, USA. The factory mainly produces photovoltaic modules based on TOPCon battery technology.   On June 16, 2023, Canadian Solar announced that it is building a photovoltaic module factory with a production capacity of 5GW in Mesquite, Texas, with an investment of more than US$250 million, and it is expected to be put into production around the end of 2023.   In the 2023 annual report, Canadian Solar mentioned the progress of the factory: In accordance with the needs of global strategic development and overseas capacity planning, the company has established a 5GW N-type new technology photovoltaic module factory in Mesquite, Texas, USA. The factory has officially started production in 2023 and has recently started delivering 210-size products. It is expected to be fully produced in 2024 and is the leader among the top photovoltaic companies.   This time, Canadian Solar announced the official opening of the Texas factory, perhaps because the factory can run at full capacity. At present, the factory may use solar cells produced by Canadian Solar in Southeast Asia.   At the same time, Canadian Solar's solar cell factory in the United States is also under intensive construction.   At the end of October 2023, Canadian Solar announced that it would invest in a 5GW high-efficiency N-type cell project in Jeffersonville, Indiana, with a planned total investment of approximately US$839 million, and is expected to be put into production by the end of 2025.   According to this plan, Canadian Solar will have a 5GW battery module production capacity in the United States in 2025, and will further improve its performance by taking the lead in deploying high-value markets.   In 2023, Canadian Solar achieved revenue of 51.31 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.94%; net profit attributable to shareholders was 2.903 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 34.61%. The annual module shipment volume was 30.7GW, and the delivery scale was at the leading level in the industry.   It is expected that by the end of December 2024, the production capacity of Canadian Solar's silicon rods, silicon wafers, batteries and modules will reach 50.4GW, 50.0GW, 55.7GW and 61.0GW respectively.

  • 10GW heterojunction stacked high-efficiency battery production base started construction

      Heterojunction is the "third generation mainstream technology" of photovoltaic cells, also known as the "ultimate platform-level technology" of photovoltaic cells. In terms of battery structure, heterojunction cells use N-type silicon wafers as substrates. There are huge differences between heterojunction cells and second-generation cells in terms of battery structure, process route and equipment, which makes them disruptive in technology.   Heterojunction + perovskite stacked cells are the "3.5 generation technology" of photovoltaic cells. Their battery structure is a combination of heterojunction cells and perovskite cells, which are connected in series through the TCO film layer; the upgrade of heterojunction cells to "heterojunction + perovskite" stacked cells can not only utilize the high efficiency characteristics of HJT, but also further improve the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the battery through the wide spectrum absorption characteristics of perovskite, and will not cause mutations in the process route and equipment of the heterojunction-related parts, thereby perfectly connecting the technological changes of photovoltaic cells.   Recently, ASIACHEM learned that the 10GW heterojunction stacked high-efficiency battery production base project of Huainan Yiheng Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd. has started construction. The total investment of this project is about 6.6 billion yuan, and the total planned land area is about 538 acres. In the first phase, a 2.4GW heterojunction stacked high-efficiency battery production line and a 100MW perovskite stacked battery pilot line will be built.     According to the official microblog of "Yiheng Photovoltaic", Huainan Yiheng Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd. has introduced a first-line R&D and mass production technical team in the domestic photovoltaic industry, including 80 people with doctoral, master's and undergraduate degrees. The team has 11 years of R&D and mass production experience, with an average efficiency of more than 25.7% (ISFH standard) for mass-produced heterojunction cells, a module power of more than 745 watts, a mass-produced large-area perovskite cell efficiency of more than 22%, and a 166-size stacked cell efficiency of more than 27%. This project plans to use the future market-competitive G12 half-chip silicon wafer (210mm*105mm), pre-cut half-chip at the cutting end of the silicon wafer, and reduce the efficiency loss caused by the half-chip at the module end. The silicon wafers that have been tested and meet the requirements will be cleaned and textured to form a velvet surface, and then silicon film and TCO film will be deposited on the front and back of the silicon wafer after the texture, and electrodes will be formed through graphic processing, and finally heterojunction batteries will be produced.

  • Saudi Arabia signs new 5.5GW PV deal

    The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) signed on Wednesday Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for three new solar photovoltaic projects with a consortium of ACWA Power Company, and the Water & Electricity Holding Company (Badeel), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and Aramco Power, a fully-owned subsidiary of Saudi Aramco.   The agreement was signed in the presence of Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.   These new projects with a capacity of 5,500 MW are part of the National Renewable Energy Program, which is supervised by the Ministry of Energy.   The three solar projects are:   Haden Solar PV, in Makkah Province, with a total capacity of 2,000 MW and an LCOE of 1.58762 cent/kWh (5.95356 Halala/kWh)   Al-Muwaih Solar PV, in Makkah Province, with a total capacity of 2,000 MW and an LCOE of 1.60852 cent/kWh (6.03194 Halala/kWh)   Al-Khushaybi PV, in Qassim Province, with a total capacity of 1,500 MW and an LCOE of 1.67289 cent/kWh (6.27334 Halala/kWh)   Starting 2024, Saudi Arabia will tender annually new renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 20 GW with the aim of reaching between 100 to 130 GW by 2030, depending on the growth of electricity demand.   Since the start of the renewables program to date, 21 projects have been awarded, including the projects that were signed on Wednesday with a total capacity of 19 GW. Of the 21 projects, seven with a total capacity of 4.1 GW are now connected to the grid, eight with a total capacity of 8.2 GW are under construction, and six with a total capacity of 7 GW are in the financial close stage.   Furthermore, and since the start of 2024, six new renewable energy projects have been tendered with a total capacity of 6.7 GW. Additional capacities are planned to be tendered during the current year in order to achieve the 20 GW annual tendered capacities target.   The National Renewable Energy program’s projects aim to reach the Kingdom’s optimal energy mix targets, and displace liquid fuels used in power generation sector and other sectors in the Kingdom, as part of the energy ecosystem’s efforts towards achieving Saudi Vision objectives.

  • The vanguard of technological innovation, the rise of new leaders in the n-type era!

    Driven by the global "carbon neutrality" goal, photovoltaics have become an important player in the global energy market and are the fastest growing renewable energy in many countries and regions. According to statistics from Sobi Consulting, in the past year, the global photovoltaic power generation installed capacity was about 380-400GW, and the DC side installed capacity was 460-500GW, of which 216.88GW was installed in China, and many data broke historical records.     Such a vast market has brought unprecedented development opportunities to photovoltaic companies. Wang Bohua, honorary chairman of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, pointed out that from January to October 2023, the output of my country's photovoltaic manufacturing links (silicon materials, silicon wafers, batteries, and modules) increased by more than 70% year-on-year, with an output value of more than 1.3 trillion yuan, setting a new record.   As an outstanding representative of China's photovoltaic companies, Yidaxinneng has won the recognition of many customers with its leading product manufacturing technology, stable product supply, extensive production capacity layout, and reliable quality assurance. In the 2023 photovoltaic module shipment list released by Sobi Photovoltaic Network & Sobi Consulting, Yidaxinneng ranked ninth with an excellent performance of 18-20GW, becoming an important member of the main brand camp in China's photovoltaic module field.   Specifically, in terms of product technology, Yidaxinneng's DAON series of modules have become an important banner leading the mass production of n-type TOPCon battery modules. Not long ago, Yidaxinneng received the certification report of the latest n-type TOPCon high-efficiency battery from the National Photovoltaic Industry Measurement and Testing Center (NPVM). The efficiency of the battery equipped with Yidaxinneng's independently developed TOPCon4.0 Plus high open circuit voltage core technology has reached a new high. The report shows that Yidaxinneng's large-area battery (334cm²) has exceeded 26.36% efficiency, breaking the 26.33% efficiency record they created in September 2023, and setting a new world record for large-area TOPCon battery efficiency. The technicians pointed out that the high open circuit voltage technology has been fully reflected, and the battery open circuit voltage has exceeded the 740mV mark, reaching 742mV, which not only broke the 735mV open voltage record created by Yidaxinneng a month ago, but also created the highest open circuit voltage of crystalline silicon homojunction solar cells, indicating their great potential in TOPCon technology.   From TOPCon1.0 in 2019 to the current TOPCon4.0Plus, Yida New Energy has never given up the research and exploration of high-efficiency battery technology. At present, the research and development team of Yida New Energy continues to make breakthroughs in the open circuit voltage of TOPCon batteries, from 701mV in TOPCon1.0 to the current 742mV, which is of great significance. TOPCon4.0 Plus has a perfect battery passivation structure, which supports the technical advantage of high open circuit voltage, and there is huge potential for efficiency improvement in the future. I believe that with the efforts of Yida New Energy, TOPCon technology is moving towards its theoretical limit of 28.7%.     Yidaxinneng adopts a decentralized manufacturing layout, with more than ten bases across the country providing products to different customers around the world. The relevant person in charge said that Yidaxinneng has always been at the forefront of the industry in terms of n-type battery and module production capacity layout, and has been ranked in the top three for many years. In 2023, n-type modules accounted for nearly 50% of all shipments. According to Sobi Photovoltaic Network, in the first quarter of 2023, n-type accounted for only about 10% of the bidding of central state-owned enterprises, but by the fourth quarter, the demand for n-type components accounted for more than 50%. Taking flexible brackets as an example, due to their large span and flexible and adjustable span range, they have a wider range of applications and are widely used in places such as tidal flats, fish ponds, and sewage treatment plants. They also perform well in mountainous areas with large slopes and "photovoltaic +" projects. In 2023, the company won bids for multiple flexible bracket projects with a total scale of more than 300MW, which was highly recognized by many customers such as Three Gorges, Huaneng, and China Resources.   According to Sobi Consulting's forecast, in 2024, the global photovoltaic market will continue to grow at a rate of more than 15%, especially overseas markets, which will become the profit focus of most photovoltaic companies. At the same time, as an advanced product with mature technology, n-type TOPCon will continue to increase its market share and become the first choice for more than half of photovoltaic projects.
